furnishing your first place is not an easy job, and it isn’t cheap either. i remember the excitement i felt when signing those papers for my first apartment, and then realizing i was going to have to get crafty if i wanted to fill my new space without breaking the bank. i came across a post on the apartment therapy blog about going through a family member’s storage closet and the likes to find furniture and accessories that they no longer wanted and that you could re-purpose to fit your new space and your budget. genius! so i made my way through my parents’ basement finding little things here and there that i might want to turn into my own.
that is where i found this delicate gold-rimmed dish that is now home to the small and favored pieces of my jewelry collection. i wanted so badly for this piece to have an interesting story, but when i asked my mom she couldn’t recall where it had come from and thought it may have held a candle at some point. although this dish is a rather average household object, i love its simplicity and the pieces that it now holds. from my grandpa’s old gold chain to the turquoise ring i bought during my stay in florence, those are the stories that hold a place in my heart and they just so happen to rest in a really cute gold-rimmed dish.
rachael and i met each other back in 2006, when we were just little babies heading off to college. thank you rachael for being a guest today!
