grammy's hot cocoa

every christmas season my grandma would always send us a big batch of her homemade hot cocoa mix. it was perfect in a big jar, because i could scoop out as much as i wanted . . . much more than what came in those individual packets. i like my cocoa extra chocolate-y, don’t you? (i’m looking at you, samantha!) grandmas always know how to do it right. it really is the most perfect hot cocoa mix. it makes a huge batch, so i like to shop for some christmas mugs from the dollar store and package enough up for my neighbors this season.

grammy’s hot cocoa mix

8 quart box of non-fat dry milk
8-11 ounces of non-dairy coffee creamer
16 ounces of nesquik, or chocolate milk powder
1 cup powdered sugar
1 teaspoon salt

mix all of the ingredients thoroughly. use 1/4 of a cup dry mix for a small mug, and 1/3  of a cup of the mix for a larger cup. pour hot water over and stir well!

hot tea and wintery things

12.07.2012

chilly afternoons are now all about drinking my hot tea and hanging out in my favorite sweaters. i’m starting to love this chilly weather, and i’m hoping for a lovely, bone-chilling weekend! ha! too bad it is supposed to be in the 60s.

happy weekend to you! i’m a busy studio bee this weekend. . . i hope to be around here next week…

although, i’m seriously busy. like…shut-myself-down-in-the-studio-and-only-let-me-up-to-use-the-bathroom, busy.

art and people

12.06.2012

i’m a big fan of plants in the house, but they seem to congregate in one spot, the only room that gets enough sunlight! so these giclée (i love saying giclée) prints from art & people could work just fine in the rooms without plants.

drink // carrot apple ginger juice

12.04.2012

i have finally bought myself a juicer! its been a good, healthy few weeks, and i thought it was time that i shared my favorite juice – pretty much the only juice i ever make. when i really like something i have a hard time branching out and trying something new.

 carrot apple ginger juice

1 granny smith apple, sliced
3 big juicing carrots
1, 1-inch cube of fresh ginger, peeled

juice it all up and mix it together. pour it in your favorite glass with a few ice cubes and savor it.

a sigh of relief

11.30.2012

it’s friday and i can finally breathe a sigh of relief. this week has been a tough one.

but all of those ban.do goodies look so cute together, on my lamp shade.

happy weekend to all!

my newest collection

11.29.2012

as strong as my love is for objects and things, you would think i’d have more collections!

other than my postcard collection i have this one other collection/infatuation. my love for cloth napkins came when i met barbara nelson. she and her husband own an art gallery in manhattan, kansas and they employed me throughout college, and even after graduation for a while. (forever thankful for them!)

barb is one of the classiest ladies i know, and her everyday use of cloth napkins is something i will always remember about her, and always admire. even the simplest of family-style, sandwich lunches were accompanied by glamorous cloth napkins. she’s inspired me to use them everyday and be less wasteful. and so i snagged these fall-colored, $1 cloth napkins on black friday.

so here’s to barbara, and the earth and farewell to paper napkins!

how she wore it

11.28.2012

well, here’s a first for ya! i’m sharing an outfit post with you and i’ve teamed up with one of my ban.do friends, whitney curtis from the curtis casa! today we’re telling you how we wore our sequined, classic ban.do heart.

obviously weekends are the best, especially when you can spend your day rummaging through antique shops with one of your best friends. that’s what last weekend consisted of for me. a lot of new-to-me goods were found, and a lot of laughs were shared. that’s what saturdays are for. and a big sequined heart from ban.do is just the accessory i need to add a little sparkle to any saturday. see how whitney wears her sequined heart right over here!
