what i love
11.13.2012
what i love right now are bracelets made by juju made. these are my absolute favorite thing right now. can’t get them out of my mind . . . julie hung is the artist behind these ceramic bangles.
if one of these gorgeous bangles were around my wrist, i’m afraid i’d never get anything done.
i’d just be sitting around admiring my bangle.
bowls
11.07.2012
i have so many bowls around my house. i know i’m an all-around pottery enthusiast, but the fact that it is mostly bowls makes me wonder why i choose to have so many around the house. i think i like being able to put whatever i want in these bowls. they’re always available to catch something for me…
the word bowls is really starting to look weird to me.
this red earthenware shallow bowl was made by lauren karle, and i got it at the kansas state university potters guild sale in 2011. gosh i miss those pottery sales! my collection had the chance to grow when i was surrounded by so many other ceramicists.

i could definitely picture myself pulling these spotted cups out of my cupboard full of wares, and pouring myself a chilled weekend beverage. well done, albion stafford. cheers! have a great weekend everyone! my to-do list is long!

getting ready
10.12.2012
there is a lot of ‘getting ready’ happening over here lately.
i’m thrilled to announce i’ll be participating in my 2nd craft fair in early november – the holiday swing. i have a lot of making to do this weekend. this weekend and early next week is pretty much all the time i have as far as new work goes. and then its time to fire and glaze each piece before the show. i’m so excited, yet just a little stressed out. thankfully i have all of my favorite people available and ready to help me set up and sell. i’m so lucky! but i’m over here frantically getting things made, while still trying to come up with some sort of cohesive booth layout and design – and all those other little details that go into one of these things. i feel crazy for taking it on so last minute, but really excited to challenge myself and work as hard as i know how.
i had a surge of motivation and inspiration after reading the maker story all about julie, the artist behind object + totem, one of my favorite ceramicists of all time.
it might be safe to say she’s my favorite artist.

sometimes i can be pretty hard on myself. but then every once in a while i make a piece that i almost want to keep.
almost.
sword + fern
10.08.2012
last week i shipped off my gold bud vases to a gallery for the first time. i wish i could go for a shopping trip at sword + fern, the artspace – general store – design studio in portland, oregon. sword + fern updates their blog and instagram feed pretty regularly with new items added to the store/gallery, and when i saw my vases had arrived safely i was a happy girl. thanks for making my week!

up-cycle it
9.26.2012
you know, as a ceramic artist i look at ceramics as ‘make it. fire it. glaze it. fire it again.’
but then i think of all of my pieces that came out kinda crappy. pin-holey, brush strokes. yuck.
but i never thought to just up-cycle some of it. paint on it, give it some new life. genius. clare dubina thought of it already! take a look at her up-cycled creations. i love the bright colors against the brown stoneware.
