coconut oil hair treatment

i may be the last person to discover the amazing benefits of coconut oil, but just in case i’m not the last, i thought i’d share this powerful hair treatment with all of you. my friend jenna ragonese is truly amazing. besides being the person who motivated me to open an etsy shop, she is a massage therapist with a deep love for the healing arts. i’m always fascinated by the natural tinctures and remedies she is so often sharing with her followers. i emailed her last week in need of a natural remedy for my dry, damaged hair and scalp. and oh my gosh did she deliver!! before i followed her advice i was in deep need of a hair cut. my ends were split, dry and just looked fried. my scalp was dry and constantly flaking (embarrassing!), but now my hair is soft, and luxurious and my scalp is clear! hallelujah!

coconut oil hair treatment

2-3 tablespoons of coconut oil (depending on how much hair you have)
10 drops of rosemary oil
10 drops of tea tree oil

heat the three items on the stove over medium heat until the oil becomes watery, just a couple of minutes. let it cool before applying it directly to your hair and scalp. wrap your hair in cling wrap and leave it in your hair for 45 minutes. *you will feel like a grease ball, but just embrace it!

my hair has never felt better after using this treatment. i don’t need a hair cut anymore! thanks jenna!

I am so all about coconut oil these days. Have you tried using it for your face as well? I’ve been doing a coconut oil wash, witchhazel on a baby wipe as toner then coconut oil again every night before ed, its so amazing my face is like a BABY!

I’m going to do this asap! What a great idea—thanks Emily :) I’m in desperate need of a hair cut too, so hopefully this will mend my hair without needing to get it snipped! I’ve been using coconut oil in a lot of edible things (in my coffee in the morning, and then blended the two to make a ‘creamy coconut’ coffee) but I haven’t used it as a beauty product. Nice tip!

I hope to try this soon, thnx! I have a hair mask i recently bought from beyas.ca, Pro Naturals Moroccan Argan Oil Hair Mask, it has worked really well so far though I’m always open to trying new products :)

Wow, so your ends aren’t splited anymore?
I tried this once, but my hair was so greasy then, even though I shampooed them 3 times in a row. Maybe my shampoo was too mild…

I found your blog through etsy! You make really beautiful stuff!

    Stay good!

      thanks anita!

I wouldn’t say all my split ends are gone, but this treatment definitely made them a little less noticeable. I even had people at work ask me if I got a hair cut because it looked so shiny and healthy!

Good luck! I hope it is successful for you this time!

I prefer argan oil, like the hair treatment form pro naturals, it’s super moisturizing :)

nice, thanks for the info, I use another good one, it’s pro naturals moroccan argan oil which is pretty nice for the hair too. :)

I never heat up the coconut oil when I use it. It’s my absolute favorite, though! Normally I just put a big spoonful in my hands and spread it through my hair. Your body heat will heat it up on it’s own in just a couple of seconds!

hey heather! thanks for the tip. it seemed so thick the first time i opened it i wasn’t sure if that was going to happen! my friend told me to heat mine for a soothing scalp massage (since i was focusing on getting rid of those pesky flakes!) and soothing it was!! but good to know if i’m in a hurry i can just slather some on. :) have a wonderful weekend!

Mmmm… Here’s my problem. I get super oily hair by the end of the day, so I feel like extra oil is my problem! But I have been washing my hair on and off for the past year with baking soda and it’s starting to feel funny and dry and breaking and I’m thinking that’s why. I might have to try this…
