busy on the wheel

6.05.2012

have i told you about my wheel yet?

my former professor, yoshi ikeda, gave me his wheel. the wheel he has had for over thirty years. so here i am, making pots on this shimpo, given to me by the man who inspired the turn in my artistic path from photography (yes, strange that that is what i started studying in college) to ceramics. its magic, and everyday i pinch myself because i must be dreaming.

the encouragement that yoshi has given me over the last 5 years is something i will never, ever forget. it sticks with you when the person you look up to believes in you and expects big things from you. i’ll never forget the times i shared with my professor yoshi, and now i have one of his finest tools, his wheel.

luke and i have been lucky enough to have yoshi and ester in our lives more often this past year, and i’m really going to miss the two of them when they move on to portland, oregon. but as much as i will miss them, i’m so happy to have this little treasure in my life. thank you yoshi and ester for one of the greatest gifts i’ve ever received.

and its perfect timing, because i’m getting started on my first custom order! 15 thrown vases with floral decals on them!
