vacation time!

6.27.2012

the reinhardt’s are off to washington, dc!! a little family vacation is exactly what i needed right now. i’ll do my best to keep you updated while i’m away!

golden ink, part 1

6.26.2012

i’m a big fan of faceted ceramics these days. (this is definitely one of my proudest little pieces!) these cups from golden ink are the first ones i’ve found that are multi-colored, and i love  that! beautiful design that turned into a beautiful object. excellent in my book!

more to come on golden ink tomorrow! i can’t help but love their work.

another object to share

6.25.2012

this time its a little plate i use to catch my favorite pieces of jewelry. a simple test tile made by masaya imanishi during a demonstration he conducted at my college. i find it to be so beautiful in how simple it is. its merely a scrap of clay that he demonstrated his design technique on, and attached to it is this grand feeling of knowing i have something made by this man. i didn’t get to see his demonstration, but working at an art gallery allowed me to handle his work, and see what his hands are capable of.

just one of the many reasons why i’m in love with tiny little objects. they can hold such a strong, deeper meaning than just what they appear to be.

click here to see a few examples of masaya imanishi’s beautiful work.

sunday is here!

6.24.2012

i don’t know about you, but . . .

. . . ahh, sunday. the day that used to bring me such sorrow and misery now brings me happiness and joy! sundays are my ‘me’ day, and i couldn’t be happier that my day is finally here. i have TONS of tomatoes for salsa making, lots of vases to make, and then its time to start packing for vacation! washington dc here i come!

another cup for the cupboard

6.20.2012

this small ceramic cup would be another perfect addition to my future kitchen cupboards. made by my friend machiko, i can proudly say it wouldn’t be the first piece in my collection that she’s made. visit her shop, floating cloud pottery and pick something out for yourself!

i can see myself sipping my favorite chocolate vodka and feeling like one cool cat. why am i not doing this right now?

oh, life

egg collective

6.20.2012

oh my heavens. egg collective has stolen my only heart. i am in love with this design company, committed to bringing us american-made furniture that ties in the heirloom-quality craftsmanship with modern design. you know, for people like me who can’t decide if they love modern or vintage home design better. i love this entire collection. every. single. piece.

*siiiiiggghhhh*

my simple objects

6.19.2012

so, i’m getting a small head start on packing up all of my things. i desperately don’t want to be doing it all the night before moving day, so i’m starting with some keepsakes, some ceramics, basically things i don’t use on a daily basis. its hard because i love all of my things so much! i sometimes feel like i’m hurting their feelings by packing them away in a box. (and i’ll spare you the background information on my deep concern for inanimate objects!)

so you can see why packing them up can be a little hard for me.

then, i started brainstorming last week of ways for me to show you my favorite objects. instagram is really helping me stick to showcasing something new of mine everyday (don’t you just love instagram?) you may have noticed some of my objects being photographed over there.

and so, i’d like to think of this as a new column for the object enthusiast. i’ll continue with daily pictures on instagram of my things of course, and include the best ones here on the blog. someday i might invite guest bloggers to show us their favorite objects, but for now you are stuck with mine.  so, without further ado, here is the first of many of my favorite objects.  enjoy!

this little gem – was made and given to me by amanda small. amanda was my first ceramics teacher and the woman who inspired me to take this artistic path in life. i owe her so much, and wouldn’t be where i am today had i not met her. she is fantastic!

this object matters to me because it was the first piece of art that started my collection. tiny as it may be, it sparked my love for clay and the things people can do with it.

so follow along with the fun @theobjectenthusiast on instagram and stay tuned here for more about my favorite objects!
